The future is a mysterious creature that we often feel is out of our control. Some people seem to just have it all figured out, while others are left feeling like they’re stuck in a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. Fear not: I am here to help you navigate the treacherous waters of future shaping versus future taking.
First and foremost, it’s important to develop a personal picture of your destiny. Think of it like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, but instead of flipping through pages, you’re actively creating the story yourself. It’s like being a writer and a main character all at once!
So, close your eyes and picture yourself in five, ten, even twenty years. What do you see? Where are you? Who are you with? What are you doing? And most importantly, what are you feeling? This picture will serve as your guide, your North Star, your vision board, your whatever-hip-metaphor-is-trending-right-now.
Now that you have your destination in mind, it’s time to think about the baggage you need to leave behind to get there. We all have that one suitcase (or ten) filled with emotional baggage, limiting beliefs, and self-doubt that we carry with us wherever we go. It’s time to drop that stuff off at the lost and found, my friends. Take a good hard look at what’s been weighing you down and ask yourself, “Is this serving me? Is this getting me closer to my destiny picture?” If the answer is no, toss it overboard. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter and freer you feel without that extra baggage.
But here’s the thing, my fellow future shapers, you can’t do this all alone. You need a team, a squad, a posse, a support system. You need people who will believe in you, challenge you, and hold you accountable. You need to grow your trusting relationship with others to experience your destiny picture. This can be scary, I know. Trusting other humans is like playing poker with your heart. But it’s worth it. It’s worth it to have people who will lift you up when you’re feeling down, who will cheer you on when you’re on top of the world, and who will give you a good swift kick in the butt when you need it. And who knows, maybe you’ll even make some lifelong friends along the way. Or at the very least, someone who will let you borrow their Netflix password.
So, there you have it, folks. Future shaping is all about creating your own destiny picture, shedding the baggage that’s been holding you back, and building a support system that will help you get there. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure book, but with more emotional growth and less page flipping. And the best part is, you get to be the author of your own story. So go forth and shape that future, my friends. The world is your sand box, shape your future world.
